The Will of God for Your Marriage

Recently, Pastor Steve Gray was preaching a sermon at World Revival Church from 1 John 5:14. Not only did God minister to us personally, but Carol and I took this message for our marriage, as well.

The will of God is for us to be dependent on Him.

Too often couples strive to give the perception that their marriage is wonderful. They try to show others they are mature enough to have achieved independence -- no longer needing any help—including help from God.

But God’s will is that we depend on Him. We must live by the Grace of God—under the shadow of his wing—in the cleft of the rock. Our marriages need to reflect that dependence upon our Lord. He is the vine and we are the branches. We are to remain in Him.

It takes work to become dependent on God.

As dependents we are to be… Courageous – willing to make changes…changes in ways of doing things, living selflessly. Humble – (not weak) understanding our position and being satisfied with it. Healthy – breaking family patterns of sickness, disease or excessive tiredness. Prosperous and successful—overcoming old patterns of managing and handling money; making sure we’re tithing (10%) into a ministry that doesn’t have a debt mentality and is using the tithe and offerings to advance the Kingdom of God and not paying off their own debt. Aggressive – being on the offense; working to grow and strengthen relationships including relationships between husbands and wives and with our children.

So, to those who believe in the name of the Son of God, have confidence in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us—whatever we ask—and we know that we have what we asked of him.

As in 3 John 1:2, we pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you!
