Blog written by World Revival Church young adults:
As the three-week series on Jesus as the true vine, the gate and the good shepherd wrapped up, it was evident that the depth gleaned from the extended study period in the Young Adult ministry at World Revival Church was amazing. Three topics, which can often be treated as traditional, easily-dismissed metaphors concerning the identity of Jesus, were revived to produce a deeper revelation of His divine nature.
There was an underlying theme throughout the weeks that continued to challenge us: the urgency of narrowing our lives. We have a responsibility, as young adults, to let ourselves be pruned until we are capable of carrying this revival. Our lives cannot be about ourselves or we will degenerate into single-minded individuals, unable to carry the weight of the very corporate movement of God.
Every week, we are faced with a choice: who is more important? It's easy to let church become routine, based on schedule or even a lack of such, but it's essential that we don't lose our focus. As soon as I make my own self more important than Jesus, I voluntarily step away from the protection and provision of the good shepherd. It's easy to think of sacrifice as giving up the simple pleasures in life, but can it even be considered such if it's in exchange for something better?
As a young adult in revival, I have begun to understand and embrace not doing everything out of my own strength. It doesn't matter how much I try or don't try because if it is generated from self effort, no fruit will come out of it. As one young person pointed out in the opening sermon of the evening, there is nothing in us that qualifies us for our destiny. Unless we remain in Christ and Christ in us, we are capable of nothing. Through Jesus, the shepherd, we are enabled to do everything that is required of us, however, we must wholly submit ourselves to him first.
These critical, life changing lessons are altering our lives every week. We have learned to make ourselves malleable in the hand of God to allow his continual refining process. This spiritual conditioning is essential, over and beyond regular church attendance. This is about the young adult generation joining together, challenging each other and supporting one another, so that we can continuously advance the kingdom of God.
If you're a young adult hungry for more of God, come join us on September 21 (7:00 - 9:00pm in the Education Building at World Revival Church) as we share on “Jesus as the head of the body.”
