Worthy to Receive!!!

Posted August 5th, 2010 by Dustin Smith

I was reading the book of Revelation the other day (I know - oooooo scary! HA!) and something stood out to me.  See if you catch it -

Revelation 4:

8 Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty -- the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come." 9 Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne, the one who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one who lives forever and ever. And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, 11 "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created."

There is so much going on in these few verses that you could pick any number of them but the one that stood out to me the most were the words, "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive".  I have bolded, underlined and even italicised the words that we should really notice.  Worship is not about you receiving anything!  It is about him receiving what He is due!  This does not just involve your "worship" in a church service but this should consume your life - FOREVER!  Revelation 5 tells us a little more about what he is worthy to receive -

Revelation 5:

12 In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise.

I looked into the greek meanings of each of these words that it says He is worthy to receive and this is what I found - "to receive power (the ability to do) and wealth (riches or abundance of external possesions) and wisdom (the power to confirm and to commend the truth with wise and intelligent argument) and strength (ability, force, might) and honor (reverence, to show value) and glory (most exalted state) and praise (blessing, bountiful gift, flattering speech).

WOW!  That is a lot of stuff!  But the reality is everyone of you give these things out everyday.  Everyone does!  The problem is not that we do not know how to worship but that we do not direction it towards God - the one worship is designed for.  You were created for this very purpose!  I know this because in Revelation 4 it goes on to say this -

11 "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created."

So when we worship we are not doing anything that we were not already created to do.  We are just returning it to it's rightful owner!  :)

And forever just started again!

Dustin
