Expect the Best!

Posted August 13th, 2010 by James Koppang

Have you ever wondered how a coach can turn a bunch of young hooligans into champions?

What is the difference between a coach who always has losing teams and one who year after year produces champions?

It comes down to their EXPECTATIONS!

Coaches that produce champions expect the best out of their players.  And even if they have a squad of misfits, when they expect the best, they tend to bring out the best in them.

Here is a word for youth pastors and parents: Your teenagers will rise to whatever level you expect!

Expect the Best!

I  laugh at the thought of a football coach treating his players like most youth pastors and parents treat their kids.  Think of it, first day of practice, all the players show up and the coach says "Do whatever is comfortable, do whatever you like. I want you to be comfortable and not offended by me asking you to do anything"  It seems absurd, but that is what we as parents and youth pastors do when it comes to our teens walk with God.  Teenagers come to church and we don't expect them to worship, pay attention, care or love God. We are just happy they showed up to practice!

Are our kids really that bad? Or have they just been living without any expectations.

Let's us challenge our youth to go more, do more and be more for the Kingdom of God!

Let's Expect the Best!
