Want to grow in your leadership skills?

The Leadership Summit held recently at World Revival Church inspired and empowered present and future leaders. Set in the atmosphere of the Kansas City revival, the seminar featured seasoned leaders of revival, including Pastor Steve Gray.

If you missed the seminar, here are the main principles pulled from Pastor’s Steve’s afternoon session, “Lead by Example” and Sunday’s service “Get Your Mind Set.” He was speaking primarily to church leaders, but these principles will apply to leaders of households and business - anywhere a good leader is needed.

“A good leader can get a good congregation! We need new kinds of leaders that have not geared their ministry for the big buildings, but more for a solid congregation of people that really live for God.

1. You must be good soil. You have to earn the right to lead, and pastors, you must earn the right to speak into other’s lives!

Make some changes in your life; get courageous about what God’s calling you to do and quit being so soft on yourself! Deal with your character and be a likeable person that’s producing fruit.

2. You must lead by example. The best way to lead is to become the person that you want your congregation to become.

I’m always going to be out front - go longer - stay later than anyone else. It’s like I’m saying to those around me, “I’m going to live it, I’m going to be it - and I’m asking YOU to go with me! Is there anyone that wants to run with me?” When you say that, you are helping people be better than they are.

3. You must be strong. A good leader combines strength with humility.

Weakness, fear and cowardice shouldn’t be in you. It takes a lot of love to have courage and say or do what needs to be done in every situation. A good leader has that strength in their life!

4. You must have vision… and see life through a wide-angle lens. Develop a spiritual sensitivity to what’s going on around you.

Are your people worshiping? You should notice. Are they gossiping? You should know! Don’t live life with blinders on. Be appalled when God is not being regarded properly and be ready to take those you lead where they need to be with God.

5. A leader must set their heart and their mind on things above. Set it where it needs to be to be to get the job God’s given you done.

Having presets in your life will help ease the stress that leaders sometimes face. Decide these 3 things ahead of time, based on the word of God:

·         This is what we never do.

·         This is what we always do.

·         This is what we’re going to discuss and pray about.

Lastly, remember that God is always treating us better than we deserve. Treat the people in your life better than they deserve - and you’ll have that congregation you always dreamed about.” -- Pastor Steve Gray
